Support Beyond the Surface
At Dubbo Dental, we provide dental implant placement and a range of minor oral surgery procedures, all delivered with a focus on clinical care and patient wellbeing. Dental implants may be used to replace one or more missing teeth, and involve the surgical placement of a titanium post into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Each case is assessed individually, considering factors like bone quality, gum health and medical history before determining whether implant treatment is suitable. We also perform procedures such as extractions — including complex and impacted teeth — along with bone grafting where required to support implant success.
Our oral surgery services are planned with precision using in-house diagnostic imaging, and are supported by anaesthetic options appropriate to the procedure and the patient’s needs. We provide detailed pre- and post-treatment instructions, including pain management and recovery care, to ensure patients feel informed and supported throughout. Whether you’re exploring long-term tooth replacement options or require a single extraction, our team aims to deliver safe and considered care.

Prepping for Oral surgery
Before any surgical procedure, we begin with a clinical examination and imaging to guide planning and determine the most appropriate treatment approach. For implant procedures, we assess the location of missing teeth, surrounding structures, and the volume and density of bone to determine whether the site can support an implant. Where needed, additional procedures such as socket preservation or bone grafting may be discussed. If surgery is indicated — whether for extractions, minor tissue removal or implant placement — we’ll explain the process step by step, including recovery expectations and care after the procedure.
Local anaesthetic is used in most cases, but we also offer general anaesthetic for more complex procedures or patients with specific clinical needs. Following surgery, we provide detailed recovery instructions tailored to the individual and the type of procedure performed. We schedule follow-up appointments as needed to monitor healing and provide ongoing support. The focus is always on patient safety, pain management and appropriate clinical follow-through to reduce the risk of complications and support positive outcomes over time.

When is a dental implant recommended?
Dental implants are typically considered when one or more teeth are missing and the surrounding bone and gum health are stable enough to support a surgical fixture. They are often chosen when a fixed, non-removable option is preferred over dentures or bridges. The decision to place an implant depends on several factors, including the patient’s general health, oral hygiene habits, and existing bone volume. A dentist will conduct a full clinical assessment and take diagnostic images to determine suitability.
Is oral surgery always necessary before getting a dental implant?
Not always. In some cases, a dental implant can be placed without the need for additional surgery beyond the implant procedure itself. However, if the bone has deteriorated due to tooth loss or infection, grafting may be required to restore the area before implant placement. Surgical needs vary depending on anatomy, tooth location, and the timing of implant planning. A thorough consultation and scan will help clarify what preparation, if any, is required.
Are there risks associated with oral surgery or implants?
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks such as infection, bleeding, or delayed healing, although these are relatively uncommon when the surgery is properly planned and post-operative care is followed. For dental implants, risks may also include implant failure or bone loss around the implant site. Smoking, certain health conditions, and poor oral hygiene can increase the risk of complications. Dentists will discuss all potential risks before proceeding with treatment and ensure patients have time to ask questions.
