Aligning Smiles at Every Age
Orthodontic care plays an important role in managing how your teeth and jaws work together over time. At Dubbo Dental, we provide orthodontic assessments and treatment for children, teenagers and adults. Misalignment can also contribute to difficulty cleaning certain areas, uneven wear, or jaw discomfort in some cases.
Our team looks at the bigger picture, taking into account how your bite functions, how your teeth fit together, and whether intervention is clinically appropriate. Treatment isn’t recommended unless there’s a clear benefit to your long-term oral health.
Depending on the findings, we may recommend clear aligners or traditional braces, and we’ll explain the reasons behind our advice clearly. Each option works differently and has its own requirements in terms of wear, maintenance and review appointments. Our focus is on helping you understand the process, what to expect, and how to care for your teeth during and after treatment. We aim to provide care that fits comfortably into your day-to-day routine, while addressing any concerns you have along the way.
If you’d like an orthodontic assessment for yourself or a family member, we invite you to call us on

Ins & Outs of orthodontics
Orthodontic treatment begins with a thorough clinical assessment to understand how your teeth are positioned and how your bite functions. We use in-house imaging to examine how your teeth meet, whether there’s crowding or spacing, and how your jaws are aligned. This allows us to decide whether orthodontics is suitable and, if so, which method may work best. We offer both fixed braces and clear aligners, depending on the nature of the treatment required. Some cases may be managed with simpler appliances, while others involve more detailed planning — all of which we explain clearly before anything proceeds.
Once treatment begins, we schedule regular review appointments to check your progress, make any necessary adjustments, and provide support with hygiene and care. It's important that appliances are worn as directed and that your oral health is maintained throughout. Brushing and flossing routines may need to be adapted slightly, and we’ll provide advice and resources to help with that. Discomfort after adjustments is common, but usually short-lived. We’re here to monitor each stage, answer any questions, and ensure that treatment is progressing as intended.

Can adults get braces or aligners?
Yes, orthodontic treatment can be effective for adults, provided their teeth and gums are healthy. Many adults seek treatment later in life due to shifting teeth, functional issues or past concerns that were never addressed. Age is not a barrier, but treatment planning may differ based on existing dental work or bone density. Clear aligners are often preferred for their appearance, but braces may still be required for complex cases.
What should people know about oral care during orthodontic treatment?
Good oral hygiene is essential during orthodontic treatment, as brackets, wires or trays can make cleaning more challenging. Brushing and flossing must be done thoroughly and more frequently to prevent plaque build-up and gum inflammation. Special tools like interdental brushes or floss threaders may be recommended. Diet also plays a role, as hard or sticky foods can damage appliances or affect results.
What is the difference between braces and clear aligners?
Braces are fixed appliances that use brackets and wires to move teeth gradually over time. Aligners are removable trays that fit snugly over the teeth and are changed at intervals to guide movement. While aligners may be more discreet and easier to clean around, they must be worn consistently to be effective. Braces are sometimes better suited to certain types of movement, such as tooth rotation or vertical adjustment.
